Description

Delightful 1850-C, Weak C, Half Eagle, AU53

1850-C $5 Weak C AU53 PCGS. Variety 15-G. The date is high, but the 1 is well-centered between the bust and the dentils. This variety is sometimes seen with a weak mintmark, as is the case with the present piece, which Winter (1998) describes as Die State II. While the C mintmark is faint, it is still readily apparent under a loupe. The rest of the details are crisply defined, and there are no marks of any significance. Flashy luster glimmers throughout the yellow-gold surfaces. Population: 4 in 53 Weak C, 1 finer (8/08).
