Description
Difficult MS61 1850-C Liberty Half Eagle
1850-C $5 Weak C MS61 NGC. Variety 4 (formerly Variety 15-G, Die State II). A thick die scratch on the lower L of LIBERTY identifies this variety, as does the weak mintmark. While Doug Winter writes this is the most common variety of the year, it can still be difficult to locate in Mint State. Indeed, NGC has graded just four Uncirculated Weak C coins. This MS61 specimen displays fairly well defined devices. The yellow-gold surfaces exhibit the most luster in the recesses, and reveal distributed minute marks. Census: 3 in 61, 0 finer (4/09).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25U2, Variety PCGS# 98244, Base PCGS# 8244, GSID# 8994)
