Not Sold Description
Scarce 1850-D AU50 Half Eagle
1850-D $5 AU50 PCGS. Variety 23-O. The mintmark is away from the stem, and its upper serif is joined to the feather. The D is weak at the bottom. Diagnostic cracks run through UNITED STATES and FIVE D. The 1850-D is scarce in AU and very rare in Mint State. PCGS and NGC have seen only seven such pieces, all in MS60 and MS61. The bright yellow-gold surfaces of this AU50 coin display partially prooflike fields, and exhibit a better-than-average strike, though the first four or five stars reveal the typical softness. Only lightly abraded.(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25U3, PCGS# 8245, GSID# 8995)
