1851-C Half Eagle, AU50
Underrated Issue
1851-C $5 AU50 NGC. Variety 1, the "earring" variety. Part
of the mintage of 49,176 pieces, the 1851-C half eagle is a scarce
coin in all grades. The present coin features the usual obverse
with an "earring" or small center hole on Liberty's earlobe. An
original and typically abraded yellow-gold Charlotte five that has
the expected indistinctness of strike on the right wing,
fletchings, and curls. Luster shimmers from protected areas.Ex: Greenwich Collection (Bowers and Merena, 1/91), lot 167.(Registry values: P4)
