Description
1851-D Five Dollar, AU55
Scarce 25-Q Variety
Seldom Seen Finer
1851-D $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 25-Q. This is a rare
obverse/reverse combination and should be of interest to the
Dahlonega specialist. Although the 1851-D is a higher-mintage
series issue, surprisingly few are known with only 115-135
estimated extant in all grades. A Choice AU example such as this
one is about as fine as one is likely to encounter. Only four or
five Uncirculated pieces are believed known. The center obverse is
weak, as usually seen, with good definition elsewhere. Each side is
peppered with numerous small abrasions, the only one note across
the eagle's right (facing) wingtip.From The Jeepy-Louise Collection.(Registry values: P3)
