Lovely 1852-C Half Eagle, AU50
1852-C $5 AU50 NGC. Variety 18-H. The 1 in the date touches the bust and the 2 is nearly as high. Charming orange-gold patina drapes both sides of this well-defined piece. A couple of stars are soft, and there is the usual weakness on some of Liberty's hair. Myriad abrasions cover both sides, as typically seen, but plenty of luster still resides in the fields. A tiny dig below the M in AMERICA is noted. With a mintage of 72,574 pieces, the 1852-C is more available than other Charlotte Mint half eagles, and this piece would make a wonderful type coin.(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UB, PCGS# 8251, GSID# 9001)
