Description

Choice Uncirculated 1852-C Five-Dollar

1852-C MS 64 NGC. While the 1852-C is widely recognized as one of the more "common" issues among Charlotte fives, its rarity and importance cannot be overstated in near-gem condition. Charlotte and Dahlonega gold coins were used extensively in the channels of commerce at the time of issuance, and are not generally available in mint condition. Only four other MS 64s have been certified by NGC (10/97) with none finer. This is a splendid coin whose surfaces are bright and lustrous. The fields are semi-prooflike and, as usual with mintmarked coins from this era, the central striking details are not fully brought up. There are several pinpoint abrasions in the fields, the most obvious ones being a small cluster on the left of the obverse. An exceptional coin and sure to be placed in a premier collection of Charlotte gold coins.
