Description

1853-C Five Dollar, AU50
Popular Charlotte Issue

1853-C $5 AU50 NGC. Variety 1. Date right, mintmark centered over V. Three die pairs are known, though Variety 1 is typically encountered. An early die state without the obverse rim cuds sometimes seen. The present piece is predominantly straw-gold with deeper peach hues where luster remains. Portions of the design are incompletely impressed, but no marks merit mention save for a reverse rim depression at 4 o'clock.(Registry values: P3)
