Description
Borderline Unc. 1853-D Half Eagle
1853-D $5 Large D AU58 NGC. Variety 29-T. One of four die pairings found for the 1853-D, all from a single obverse die. On this reverse, the D is high and left, with the upright over the center of V in FIVE. The left top nearly touches a talon to the left, and the tip of the arrow feather is very close over the center of the upright of D. This lustrous yellow-gold example is only modestly weak in the centers and a trio of shallow vertical marks in the left obverse field, while not particularly distracting, are useful for future attribution.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UF, PCGS# 8255, Greysheet# 9004)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
