Description
Appealing Mint State 1853-D Coronet Half Eagle
1853-D $5 Large D MS62 PCGS. Variety 29-V. Satiny and highly appealing for the moderate grade. Note the well struck central devices of Liberty and the eagle, quite an event for the Dahlonega Mint coin. The dentils on the obverse show typical softness below and up to the left from the date and in the corresponding area on the reverse. Examination of the surfaces will find few faults, with Liberty's face and neck particularly pleasing. Even the surrounding fields show minimal signs of handling, and this is a coin which any advanced collector will be quite proud to own. In terms of rarity, this date is scarce in all Uncirculated grades, and even select circulated pieces generate significant attention. Population: 5 in 62, 6 finer (6/05).(#8255)(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UF, PCGS# 8255, Greysheet# 9004)
