Description
1853-D Five Dollar, MS61
Attractive Mint State Example
1853-D $5 MS61 NGC. Variety 35-X. The 1853-D is one of the
more available Dahlonega half eagles, with a mintage of 89,678
pieces several Mint State survivors. This is a pleasing MS61
example. Smooth, satiny surfaces show a minimum number of tiny
marks for the grade, while the strike is sharp except at star 7 and
the eagle's claws and arrow fletchings. Gleaming honey-gold color
with attractive mint luster glows from each side. The rims and
dentils are sharp on both the obverse and reverse, a characteristic
of the scarce 35-X die variety. Census (all varieties): 22 in 61 (1
in 61+), 15 finer (2/19).From The Jersey Shore Gold Collection. (Registry values: P1)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UF, PCGS# 8255, Greysheet# 9004)
