Description

1854-C Five Dollar, AU50
Weak C, Low-Mintage Issue

1854-C $5 Weak C AU50 NGC. Winter-2. The 1854-C is a scarce Charlotte issue. The mintage was less than 40,000 pieces, and two varieties are known: Winter-1 with a bold mintmark over the V in FIVE, and Winter-2 with a faint mintmark over the E in FIVE. On Winter-2, the mintmark was entered in low relief, but it is nonetheless complete. This briefly circulated green-gold representative displays many pockets of luster. The strike shows incompleteness on the high points, but no abrasions merit mention.
