Description
Nearly Uncirculated 1854-D Half Eagle With a Bold Mintmark
1854-D $5 AU58 NGC. Winter 25-T. This branch mint gold issue was produced to the extent of only 56,143 coins. High grade survivors, however, are among the more plentiful in the D-mint Half Eagle series, and they are surpassed in availability only by those of the 1853-D delivery. Uncommonly well produced for the date, both sides retain overall sharp definition despite a little light rub. The otherwise green-gold color brightens to orange-gold hues as the coin rotates into the light. Boldly impressed, the D mintmark is noteworthy for an 1854-D Five from this die pair. A strong candidate for inclusion in a high grade circulated type set.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UK, PCGS# 8258, Greysheet# 9008)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
