Rare Variety 2

1854-O $5 AU58 PCGS. Variety 2. Despite a mintage of only 46,000 pieces, two die pairs are known for the 1854-O. Most survivors are Variety 1, with a right-centered date and a centered mintmark. The rare Variety 2 has a left-centered date and the mintmark is high and further right. This butter-gold near-Mint five is unmarked aside from minor abrasions near stars 2 and 13. The strike is above average except on the lovelock.(Registry values: P6)
