Description
One of the Finest Known 1854-O Half Eagles, MS61
1854-O $5 MS61 PCGS. At the MS61 level, this piece is one of the finest known. Choice AU pieces are all that were listed on Winter's Condition Census ten years ago with 4-5 Mint State coins believed extant. This coin is three points finer than the Ronald Brown/Acadiana specimen sold in our 1999 ANA Sale. This example is well struck and shows warm rosy-golden coloration. Sharply struck in all areas with bright semi-prooflike fields. Very lightly abraded, the only marks that might be useful for pedigree purposes is a shallow scrape between stars 12 and 13.From the Ashland City Collection.
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UM, PCGS# 8259, Greysheet# 9011)
