Description
1854-O Half Eagle, AU53
Low-Mintage Southern Issue
1854-O AU53 PCGS. CAC. Variety 3. Ex: The Fairmont
Collection. The 1854-O is a better New Orleans issue due to its
stingy production of 46,000 pieces. Three die marriages are known,
but most survivors are Variety 1. The rare Variety 3 shares a
reverse die with Variety 1 but the date is entered further west,
and Liberty displays a clash mark above her lip. This example
displays an elusive green CAC seal. The olive-gold surfaces are
attractive and display ample luster. The strike is typical for the
Southern facility. CAC: 6 in 53, 15 finer (8/23).(Registry values: P6)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UM, PCGS# 8259, Greysheet# 9011)
Weight: 8.36 grams
