Description

Challenging 1855-O Half Eagle, AU53

1855-O $5 AU53 NGC. Bright yellow surfaces show captivating semiprooflike reflectivity. Numerous abrasions cover each side, but all are inconsequential save for a shallow scratch at the bottom of the bust. This piece exhibits impressive sharpness, with the hair just a trifle soft. A mere 11,100 coins were struck, and most were heavily circulated. The 1855-O ranks among the scarcest New Orleans half eagles and is especially challenging in high grades. Census: 12 in 53, 21 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P7)
