Description

1855-O Half Eagle, AU55
11,100 Minted, 8 Finer at NGC

1855-O $5 AU55 NGC. Winter-1. White-gold hues contain hints of green-gold. Strike is extremely strong, with all strands of hair fully impressed on Liberty and a hint of weakness on the eagle's neck hardly interrupting feather separation. Abrasions are minimal, limited to a handful of trivial marks in the obverse fields. Just 11,100 half eagles were minted in 1855 in New Orleans, and high grade examples are particularly elusive, with just 8 and 7 finer certifications at NGC and PCGS, respectively. Census: 14 in 55, 8 finer (12/25).(Registry values: P7)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UT, PCGS# 8264, Greysheet# 9016)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
