Description
High Grade 1855-S Half Eagle
1855-S AU 53 NGC. Very scarce and even more elusive than the Dahlonega or Charlotte issues of the same date, even though the mintage was substantially higher for the San Francisco issue. The '55-S is a condition rarity also with most survivors being well worn. In AU it is decidedly rare with only one mint state piece certified, placing this coin in the lower end of the Condition Census. The piece has bright surfaces and an attractive trimming of rose patina around the devices. Sharply defined also.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UU, PCGS# 8265, Greysheet# 9017)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
