Description

1857 Liberty Half Eagle, MS63
Rare High-Grade Example

1857 $5 MS63 PCGS. Soft, satiny butter-gold luster illuminates minimally marked surfaces on this Select Mint State 1857 half eagle. The eagle's neck and the hair curls at Liberty's brow show slight softness, but the border stars are well defined. Eye appeal is pleasing. This Philadelphia issue is rarely found in MS63, and only a handful of higher-grade pieces are reported. Population: 15 in 63, 5 finer (2/22).
