Description

Scarce and Underrated 1857-D Five, AU 53

1857-D AU 53 PCGS. A bit weakly struck on the lower part of the eagle but still a very sharp overall impression. An attractive, original coin with crusty surfaces and medium to deep orange-gold coloration.
The 1857-D is, along with the 1856-D, one of the most underrated Dahlonega half eagles. We believe that 80-90 coins are known with just 13 to 15 of these in the various AU grades and another 3 in Mint State.

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25V4, PCGS# 8273, Greysheet# 9023)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
