Not Sold Description
Conditionally Scarce 1857-S Half Eagle MS61
1857-S $5 MS61 NGC. This low mintage issue saw heavy use in the West Coast channels of commerce, and remains scarce today at every grade level. Just 16 examples have been certified in Mint State, by NGC and PCGS combined, and several of those were "survivors" of the S.S. Central America shipwreck. This piece is well struck with somewhat muted luster and variegated lime-gold and pink-rose coloration. Surface marks are not excessive for the grade.
