Description
1858 Five Dollar, MS64
Low-Mintage No Motto Issue
1858 $5 MS64 PCGS. A rare issue and the first year in a
twenty-year run of scarce, low mintage half eagles from the
Philadelphia Mint. The mintage of this difficult No Motto five
dollar was a mere 15,136 pieces and it is very elusive in all
grades, but especially so in mint condition. This is a clean,
well-balanced coin that is sharply defined in all areas and shows
light reddish color on each side. Noticeable striations in the
obverse fields are indicative of an early die state.Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2000), lot 7656; Philadelphia 2000 Signature (Heritage, 8/2000), lot 7250.(Registry values: P5)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25V7, PCGS# 8276, Greysheet# 8904)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
