    Description

    1858 Five Dollar, MS64
    Low-Mintage No Motto Issue

1858 $5 MS64 PCGS. A rare issue and the first year in a twenty-year run of scarce, low mintage half eagles from the Philadelphia Mint. The mintage of this difficult No Motto five dollar was a mere 15,136 pieces and it is very elusive in all grades, but especially so in mint condition. This is a clean, well-balanced coin that is sharply defined in all areas and shows light reddish color on each side. Noticeable striations in the obverse fields are indicative of an early die state.
    Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2000), lot 7656; Philadelphia 2000 Signature (Heritage, 8/2000), lot 7250.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25V7, PCGS# 8276)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
