1858-C $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 1. Most survivors from the 38,856-coin mintage of Charlotte Mint half eagles in 1858 are from the die pair offered here. 47 of the top 50 examples in our Permanent Auction Archives are Variety 1. This splendid light yellow-gold half eagle has nearly full satin mint luster and bold design motifs with faint field reflectivity on both sides. This is an outstanding example for the advanced collector. Census: 39 in 58 (2 in 58+), 22 finer (8/16).
