    Description

    1858-C Half Eagle, MS61
    High-Grade Charlotte Type Coin

1858-C $5 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. The mintmark is below the point of the fletching, as usual. The 1858-C is one of the most collectible Charlotte Mint half eagles overall, and the most available one in high grades. However, Winter still only believes 10 to 15 Mint State examples survive. This partly lustrous orange-gold five dollar shows bold obverse design detail, and reverse softness is confined to the breast feathers, right talon, and fletchings. Peppered ticks and hairlines are unobtrusive. Census: 7 in 61, 9 finer (7/19).(Registry values: P3)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25V8, PCGS# 8277)
