Description
Still-Lustrous 1858-D Five, AU53
Scarcer D-Mint Issue
1858-D $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 35-CC. The 1858-D is seldom seen
in any grade and is especially elusive in Almost Uncirculated. Only
125-150 pieces are estimated known in all grades, and of that
number only 30-36 examples are believed extant in AU. This piece
has little wear and noticeable traces of bright mint luster around
the margins and devices. The centers are slightly soft, as almost
always seen, and each side is peppered with numerous small, but
individually insignificant abrasions. From The Michael A. Tongg Collection.(Registry values: P3)
