Description

Reflective 1858-D Half Eagle, MS60

1858-D $5 MS60 NGC. Variety 35-DD. An extraordinary Dahlonega half eagle, one of the better examples of this issue to survive. Hints of orange toning reside on the brilliant yellow-gold surfaces, with reflective fields and lustrous devices. Typical design weakness is evident below the coronet, and at the bottom of the eagle. However, the surfaces are exceptional for the assigned grade. Census: 2 in 60, 9 finer (7/10).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25V9, PCGS# 8278, Greysheet# 9027)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
