1858-S $5 AU50 NGC. Despite a mintage of 18,600 pieces, the 1858-S half eagle is scarce in all grades with fewer than 100 pieces believed known. NGC and PCGS combined list 98 coins, including possible resubmissions, with just one piece in Mint State. This About Uncirculated coin displays sharp detail and partially lustrous olive-gold surfaces. Scattered marks are characteristic of the grade. Census: 8 in 50, 26 finer (10/16).
