Description

Condition Census AU 1858-S Five-Dollar

1858-S AU 50. The last and finest example of this difficult S-mint, an issue that becomes a significant condition rarity above XF. This piece, like the preceding, is tinged in reddish patina (although not as deep) and shows moderate abrasions. Considerably more luster remains, however, in the protected areas. Only a handful of '58-S half eagles could better this lustrous specimen.
