Description
1859 Half Eagle, AU55
Conditionally Scarce; 16,734 Minted
1859 $5 AU55 NGC. Citrus highlights adorn green-gold
surfaces. Subtle weakness occurs on the high points of the hair and
on the eagle's neck. Trivial abrasions can be found only below the
chin and above the right wing. This low-mintage Philadelphia Mint
half eagle has claims to greater scarcity than many branch mint
coins of the previous few years. Fewer than ten are known in Mint
State, and AU examples, while still scarce, provide the optimal
collecting opportunity. Census: 19 in 55, 21 finer
