Description

1859 Five Dollar, AU58+
Highly Lustrous Fields

1859 $5 AU58+ PCGS. Coming from a mintage of only 16,734 pieces, the 1859 Liberty half eagle is a rarity in high grade. Mint State coins are extremely rare. The present example is as close to Mint State as a collectible AU coin can get. The strike is bold, and substantial luster remains in the fields amid original straw-gold patina. Field chatter appears to limit the grade, as no mentionable wear is seen. Population: 22 in 58 (2 in 58+), 2 finer (11/16).(Registry values: P6)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VB, PCGS# 8280, Greysheet# 8905)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
