Description

Scarce AU53 1859-C Half Eagle

1859-C $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 1. Moderate abrasions pepper the surfaces on both sides, but a considerable amount of luster remains. The 1859-C half eagle is a noted strike rarity, every example showing weakness around Liberty's hair, more so on the details of the eagle. This piece is no exception; in fact, there are no exceptions, according to Winter, but he maintains that the issue is scarce in AU53 or finer. Census: 16 in 53, 70 finer (2/10).(Registry values: P4)
