    Description

    High-End AU53 1859-C Half Eagle

1859-C $5 AU53 PCGS. Variety 27-M. The amount of luster still remaining on the surfaces of this AU survivor is quite surprising, and seems more like that expected on a Mint State example. As specialists know, one must grade the '59-C solely by the obverse because of the poor state of the die that was used on the reverse. The obverse details are quite sharp for issue, especially on the portrait. When closely examined, one notices numerous tiny abrasions that pepper each side, and a somewhat granular, pebbly texture to the reverse fields. Based upon the fine overall appearance of the piece, however, it seems conservatively graded at the current level. Population: 10 in 53, 26 finer (8/06).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 25VC, PCGS# 8281)
