1859-C $5 AU55 NGC. Variety I. Two obverses share a common reverse to represent the two known 1859-C varieties. The date is slightly left on this example, with small openings in the 8 compared to the second-known obverse, which has the date farther right and visibly larger openings in the 8. Pleasing straw-gold surfaces are only lightly marked for the Choice About Uncirculated grade. As always, the obverse is considerably sharper than the reverse, which is weakly struck from a rusted die. Census: 29 in 55, 47 finer (9/19).(Registry values: P4)
