Description

1859-D Medium D Five Dollar, AU58+
Generous Luster and Eye Appeal

1859-D $5 Medium D AU58+ PCGS. CAC. Variety 44-HH. The 1859-D half eagle, despite its low mintage of 10,366 pieces, is rather more available in higher grades than some other of its D-mint siblings, fortunately for collectors today. Perhaps a small hoard was uncovered at some time in the past. This piece boasts generous luster on yellow-gold surfaces with just a touch of high-point wear and minimal abrasions. The strike is sharp throughout. Excellent eye appeal makes this a top-flight candidate for a Southern gold type set. Population: 18 in 58 (2 in 58+), 11 finer (4/15). This is one of only five Medium Ds in AU58 with the CAC sticker.(Registry values: P3)
