Description
1859-D Half Eagle, AU58
Medium D, CAC-Endorsed
1859-D $5 Medium D AU58 PCGS. CAC. Variety 44-HH. The 10,366
half eagles struck at the Georgia facility in 1859 represent the
second-lowest D-mint production in the series after the famed
1861-D. Few examples survive, probably 175 to 225 coins, and even
fewer display original orange and green-gold color, as on this
CAC-endorsed near-Mint example. The strike shows typical
incompleteness over Liberty's portrait and the first couple of
stars, while the eagle is surprisingly sharp. Lightly abraded, but
nonetheless appealing. Note that CAC has awarded green stickers to
merely six AU58 coins plus a single MS63. Population: 29 in 58 (2
in 58+), 12 finer (3/16).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VD, PCGS# 8282, Greysheet# 9030)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
