Description

1859-S Five Dollar, AU50
Underrated in All Grades

1859-S $5 AU50 NGC. NGC has only graded 30 problem-free examples of the rare 1859-S half eagle, which probably has a survivorship of fewer than 80 pieces. The issue is seriously underrated, providing collectors with an opportunity to reasonably obtain a genuine treasure from the first few years of S-mint operation. This lightly circulated half eagle enjoys pleasing red-gold color and maintains good detail. Abrasions and rim bumps are not overly distracting. Census: 1 in 50, 18 finer (1/19).(Registry values: P8)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VE, PCGS# 8283, Greysheet# 9032)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
