Description
Near Mint 1861-C Half Eagle
1860-C $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 28-M. Only 14,813 examples of this date were struck, and few of those have survived for nearly a century and a half until today. The reverse has mushy design details, resulting from the overuse of a die that was used during the previous year. Otherwise, this is a lovely example with sharp design features. The surfaces have deep yellow-gold with orange overtones. Numerous tiny abrasions are noted on both sides, but none of these are individually significant.(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VG, PCGS# 8285, Greysheet# 9033)
