Challenging Near-Mint 1860-D Half Eagle

1860-D $5 Medium D AU58 NGC. Variety 38-FF. A good strike with only moderate merging of detail on the eagle's neck and opposite on the curl below the ear. The pale green-gold surfaces have only one faded mark, located beneath the chin. Just 14,635 pieces were struck. Census: 44 in 58, 13 finer (1/09).(Registry values: P4)
