Description
1860-D Half Eagle, MS61
Reflective Fields
1860-D $5 Medium D MS61 PCGS Secure. Variety 46-GG. All Mint
State 1860-D half eagles certified by PCGS are of this Medium D
variety, and these pieces are conditionally rare. Doug Winter
estimates that fewer than 275 examples of this issue survive in all
grades, with as few as a dozen pieces being in true Uncirculated
condition. Some duplication is likely represented in the certified
population figures. The present coin displays sharp obverse stars
and hair curls and is undeniably Mint State. Strike weakness on the
eagle's neck is not bothersome. The bright straw-gold surfaces are
lightly marked but lack severe abrasions. An appealing Mint State
Dahlonega half eagle. Population: 12 in 61, 16 finer
(6/18).(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VH, PCGS# 8286, Greysheet# 9034)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
