Description
1860-D Half Eagle, MS62
Medium D Mintmark
1860-D $5 Medium D MS62 PCGS. Variety 48-GG (formerly
38-FF). A lemon-gold example of this late Dahlonega issue that
surely qualifies as Condition Census, since the third party
population data is inflated by resubmissions over the past
quarter-century. Nicely struck, with blending of detail limited to
the eagle's neck and Liberty's lovelock. The satiny apricot-gold
surfaces are essentially unabraded aside from small marks near star
4. Despite a scant mintage of 14,635 pieces, three die varieties
are known, distinguished by the mintmark size and location.
Population: 13 in 62, 2 finer (2/14).(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VH, PCGS# 8286, Greysheet# 9034)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
