Description

Exemplary XF45 1860-D Half Eagle, Medium D

1860-D $5 Medium D XF45 PCGS. Variety 38-FF, the only known Medium D dies. The 1860-D half eagle is among the better-produced issues of this Southern mint, and this is an exemplary representative of its output. The strike is bold, save for flatness on star 1, and on the eagle's lower neck on the reverse. Neither side shows any singular abrasions, despite wear consistent with the grade. Lovely orange-gold surfaces round out the broad appeal.(Registry values: P4)
