Description

Lower Condition Census 1860-D Half Eagle, MS61

1860-D $5 MS61 PCGS. Medium D. Variety 38-FF. (per Doug Winter's second edition and revised attribution system). Comparable to the Green Pond coin, this 1860-D is similar in overall appearance to that piece. The striking details on this coin are especially well defined with sharp definition on Liberty's hair curls as well as the eagle's plumage. Numerous small abrasions are scattered over each side, but the only noteworthy ones are a milling mark in the lower right obverse field and a diagonal scrape that runs parallel to the top of the eagle's right (facing) wing. Pleasing orange-gold color overall with only the faintest hint of green present. A lower Condition Census example of this scarce and important Dahlonega issue.
