Stunning Condition Census 1860-D Half Eagle, MS62
1860-D $5 MS62 PCGS. Ex: Ashland City. Large D. Variety 38-FF. (Per Doug Winter's second edition and revised attribution system). Though ranked only 17th overall in in terms of half eagle Dahlonega mint rarities, truly elusive in better Uncirculated grades. Well defined, with numerous small abrasions that are evenly scattered over each side. Notable are a small milling mark in the lower obverse field and a diagonal scrape running parallel to the eagle's right wing. Attractive orange-gold surfaces with a light touch of green and high eye appeal. Tied for second finest on the current Condition Census. Population: 5 in 62, 1 finer (10/03).
