Description
Near-Gem 1861 Half Eagle
1861 $5 MS64 NGC. The 1861 is a familiar type issue for collectors seeking a No Motto date of the Liberty Head design. While the issue offers great availability all the way to the MS63 level, it becomes a borderline condition rarity as a near-Gem and is very rare with no questions asked any finer. This is a lovely MS64 representative, sharply struck with appreciable reflectivity in pale yellow-gold fields. Prominent die polishing lines run through the fields, but abrasions are few aside from a handful of marks on Liberty's portrait. Census: 27 in 64, 8 finer (2/11).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VK, PCGS# 8288, Greysheet# 8907)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
