1861-C $5 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Variety 1. The Charlotte Mint struck coins for the final time in 1861. This half eagle issue claims a small mintage of 6,879 coins and is perennially popular with Southern gold specialists. Although the present example was cleaned at some point, it maintains uniformly strong detail with minimal blending, though hairlines appear throughout.
