Description
Condion Census 1861-C half eagle
1861-C AU 58 PCGS. A bright, near-mint example of this popular branch mint issue. The reverse shows a light die crack above the AME of AMERICA. The surfaces are rather extensively abraded, as usually seen, with a horizontal scratch prominently placed to the right of Liberty's mouth, another at the base of her neck, and one above the eagle's beak on the reverse. There is the usual softness on the curls around Liberty's face. The surfaces are bright yellow-gold with hints of orange toning. The reverse has an almost prooflike appearance while the obverse is slightly more subdued. This piece is tied with at least three other examples as fifth finest known on the Condition Census and is a grade finer than the North Georgia collection piece.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VL, PCGS# 8289, Greysheet# 9037)
Weight: 8.36 grams
