Conditionally Challenging 1861-S Half Eagle AU55
1861-S $5 AU55 NGC. This appealing Choice AU half eagle is well struck on most design features, except for the eagle's arrow fletchings and right (facing) talons. Even highpoint wear is noted on both sides. The light greenish coloration is augmented by considerable amounts of reddish mint luster for the grade. This issue is a formidable rarity at all grade levels. Census: 5 in 55, 8 finer (8/07). (Registry values: P8)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VN, PCGS# 8291, GSID# 9039)
