Description

NGC 1861-S XF 45. An exceptionally difficult issue to locate in any condition, Akers ranked the '61-S in the top 10% of the series in rarity. It is, as well, a condition rarity with the finest known specimen being an NGC AU 50. This is a pleasing coin with small traces of luster still seen here and there, well struck on the obverse with slightly soft feather details on the eagle on the reverse. Identifiable for pedigree purposes by a pair of small milling marks on the cheek of Liberty on a line between the lowest hair curls and the bottom of the nose. Trends $4150 in XF 40, $16,000 in AU 50 (12/14).
